Instrument Categories: 12 String, Archtop, Electric, Guitars, SOLD, Thinline
This spectacular and rare Rickenbacker 381 12V69 sporting a Fireglo finish is in near perfect condition! The Rickenbacker 381 12V69 reproduces the 1969 version of the 381/12, originally introduced in 1957 and built until 1963, and again from 1969 to 1974 with the modern two-level pickguard used here. This design was created by Roger Rossmeisl, a German luthier who emigrated to the USA to work for Gibson during 1953. This didn’t last, and by 1954 had moved to Los Angeles and was hired by Francis Hall at Rickenbacker. Here, he created many of the designs Rickenbacker still offers. Rossmeisl later left Rickenbacker for Fender, and was responsible for the Telecaster Thinline.
Roger Rossmeisl ultimately returned to Germany and died in Berlin during 1979.
This example dates to the 42nd week of 2012 – October 15 to 21 – and does not appear to have been played more than a few minutes. It has spent most of its time in its case, a silver rectangular Rickenbacker model with a Ric logo on the opening edge and a plaque reading “Rickenbacker 381/12V69 Vintage Series Vintage 2012” on the case top.
More From The Builder On The Rickenbacker 381 12V69:
“Basically the same design as the 381V69 but with 12 strings. Derived from a design dating back to 1957, this guitar is memorable for its hand-carved arch top and back. Employing only premium ‘charactered’ Maple, model 381/12V69 has a full bound body with ‘checked’ binding and extreme double cutaways, along with a bound crescent sound hole to complete this exquisite guitar. Also available as a 6 string (Model 381V69) these guitars are produced in Fireglo, Jetglo and natural Mapleglo finishes.”
The original Rickenbacker case is included, and is itself in excellent condition.
