The chambered body Richmond Dorchester by Godin was built from late 2008 until 2013, along with a bass version, the Belmont and Empire models.
The Richmond guitar shop was initiated by Godin during 2008 to focus on building chambered and solidbody electric models. Three models were ultimately offered, the Belmont Dorchester and Empire before closure in 2013.
The Richmond Dorchester features a chambered body built of Silver Leaf Maple and Poplar, and a Rock Maple neck – woods likely sourced locally. The body design evokes both Mosrite and Rickenbacker models, but is distinctly different from both.
The Dorchester uses a pair of Lace Alumitone humbucking pickups, described here by their maker:
“This radical departure from pickup design is aluminum based, rather than copper. Result: less resistance, higher output coupled to a “current driven design” as opposed to conventional voltage based pickups.
The aluminum water jet cut exoskeleton is then matted to a micro winding using 90% less fine copper wire, a low impedance/high impedance pickup is then created.
Broadband response like our single coil version, but voiced for the classic mid range response humbucker tone. Installing two of these Alumitones on your guitar will save you 1/3lb of weigh and increase your guitars resonance!”
This Sunburst example is in overall very good clean and original condition, and plays well. Fret and finish wear are negligible, and the guitar does not appear to have been played much.
The original Richmond-branded hard shell case is included.
