The Ramirez 1a Especial model was conceived by the late José Ramirez IV for those looking for a more modern sound with a less robust bass than the original Ramirez 1a (now called the 1a Traditional, or in the Spanish spelling 1a Tradicional).
Offering a very nicely balanced tone, the Ramirez 1a Especial is still nearly as loud as the Ramirez 1a Tradicional. The primary difference is that the Especial’s sides are solid rosewood instead of the Tradicional’s interior cedar lining. Both use Indian Rosewood for the back, sides, bridge and headplate, Red Cedar for the tops, Spanish Cedar for the neck with Ebony for the fingerboard. The nut and saddle are bone and standary Lyre tuners are at the headstock.
This Ramirez 1a Especial dates to 1993 and was built at the Ramirez shop at Concepcion Jeronima No. 2 in Madrid. This was the Ramirez location from 1882 to 1995, when they moved to Calle de la Paz No. 8 Madrid.
Grant MacNeill has set up this guitar. The current action is extra low at 6.5/64 inch treble to 8/64 inch bass, a typical Latin Jazz action height. There is plenty of scope at the saddle to go even lower though we have no doubt that most buyers will request that we raise the action to a standard concert height. This is easily done with no charges.
Overall, this guitar is in good condition with some wear marks and dents from playing and restringing. Top dents that had broken through the finish have been sealed to prevent darkening.
The original Spanish made case is included.
