No longer available in this form, the PRS S2 Starla with Bigsby was first introduced in 2008 as the Starla, the only PRS model using a Bigsby vibrato unit. Presently, the Starla fits in the PRS line at a higher price and with a hardtail.
Using a simple construction style, the PRS S2 Starla with Bigsby combines a Mahogany neck with Mahogany body and a 22-fret Indian Rosewood fingerboard. The neck joint has a nicely asymmetrical heel that’s quite comfortable and helps with access to the upper frets. Position markers are the distinctive PRS birds. A new model of humbucking pickup with twelve adjustable pole pieces is used, but the wiring is otherwise standard with master volume and tone and a 3-way selector switch. Standard PRS locking tuners are at the head, and at the other end there’s a Tune-O-Matic style bridge and a ‘licensed’ Bigsby B50 true vibrato tailpiece. The term ‘licensed’ means, with Bigsby, that the unit is made outside the USA under license. These are functionally but not dimensionally identical to a US-made unit – they are metric, while US made Bigsbys use Imperial measure (inches).
This PRS S2 Starla is a very good, US made guitar, with all of the quality that PRS is known for.
