The PRS Custom 22 10 Top is a spectacular guitar in any finish, and the Black Cherry stain on this 1994 example is stunning. The Custom 22 was first based on the PRS Dragon, but without the fancier inlay or trem. In 2015, the stoptail bridge was discontinued and the trem bridge took its place.
Introduced in 1993 and built till 2009 and again since 2013, the PRS Custom 22 uses proven construction and materials – a carved Maple top on a double-cutaway Mahogany back, with a Mahogany neck and Indian Rosewood fingerboard. This provides a warm, rich sound with clear, crisp high end.
Dating to 1994 and built at the PRS shop in Annapolis, Maryland, this PRS Custom 22 10 top has a pair of open-coil Dragon 1 pickups – a Dragon T at the bridge and a Dragon B at the neck. The headstock carries PRS locking tuners, standard since 2002, and the bridge is a PRS McCarty Stop Tail model, honoring the late Ted McCarty, the former CEO of Gibson responsible for many advances and historic instruments.
“Designed to take full advantage of the resonant properties of our guitars, the PRS Stoptail Bridge provides direct transmission of string vibration to the guitar body and makes set-up a breeze. First used in 1991 on the PRS Dragon I guitar it now appears on almost half of all PRS guitars sold. This bridge features slots that recess the strings comfortably as they pass over the top, in a gentle curve. Although it is pre-compensated for modern string gauges, fine-tuning is possible by adjusting the set screws at each end of the bridge.”
This fine instrument is in overall good condition with light wear to the finish and frets. It plays well and sounds great!
The 10 top is indicated by a small ’10’ stamped on the back of the head, just past the serial number.
The original rectangular PRS hard shell case is included.
