Quality Adirondack Spruce is hard to come by… the elusive “bear-claw” feature present in this example is rare, to say the least. The stiffness exhibited by it allows for a top with a much higher “threshold” of volume and tone. Dynamics are at the heart of this choice, retaining detail for both lower and higher attack styles.
The back and sides of this G W Barry OM Cutaway are a premium set of old growth Indian Rosewood (Dalbergia latifolia) , native to low-elevation tropical monsoon forests of south east India. Cosmetically rich in its oxblood hues, Indian Rosewood is noted for its clarity and overtones as well as stability…and sustainability!
A relatively new feature for Barry guitars is the heel hugging cutaway, allowing the player cleaner access to the upper frets.
The rosewood and maple bevelled side port as found on this G W Barry OM Cutaway increases air dispersion, allowing the top to vibrate more freely. The “monitoring” aspect of this feature also enhances the over all experience for the player.
