Louis Panormo was the most successful of all nineteenth-century London guitar makers. His clients included Trinidad Huerta Madame Pratten and probably Fernando Sor. He built guitars from 1822 to around 1855 when his nephew took over the business. This 1838 Louis Panormo Guitar is an excellent example of the work of the era.
This particular 1838 Louis Panormo guitar was Panormo’s top regular model, with brazilian rosewood back and sides and a mother of pearl rosette. It was made in the Spanish style with seven fan braces (yes before Torres).

From the 1950’s, The Gretsch company had a long association with Chet Atkins, and a number of models bore his name and the ‘Country Gentleman’ label. Later, the artist endorsement moved to Gibson, and Gretsch no longer had the rights to either the name or the label.
