Construction of the 2015 Gibson SG Standard followed the traditional line – a solid Mahogany body, Mahogany neck and bound Rosewood fingerboard. The hardware was upgraded to the new tuners and zero fret nut, but many also shipped with a set of standard Grover Roto-Matic tuners, or a set was available, should the purchaser not want the G-Force tuners.

The Ibanez JS1000 Joe Satriani model was built from 1994 to 2014 and for much of that time available in the Black Pearl finish seen here. Joe Satriani has been highly influential for decades, dating back to giving Steve Vai and Kirk Hammett lessons and on to his own work as a sideman and successful solo career. There’s a lot to like in the Ibanez JS1000. The design is very effective, and based on the real needs of a highly skilled performer.

MORE →Built at his workshop in Mississauga, Ontario, the Anthony Karol Orchestra Model is a fine example of skill and meticulous craft work. The Orchestra Model design is based closely on the classic 000 body size, but normally has a longer scale length. Karol makes the body slightly wider and rounds the shoulders for slightly increased bass output, with the goal of a more even response across the spectrum.

MORE →Built in Bozeman, Montana and for the moment out of production, the Gibson SJ-100 1941 Reissue recreates the sound and feel of the pre-war Mahogany body jumbo. The Super Jumbo body style appeared in 1938 and is best known for the J-200 model, with Spruce top and Maple for the back and sides, and often highly decorated beyond the hand-painted pickguard. In 1939, the less expensive and less decorated SJ-100 appeared, with a Spruce top, but with Mahogany for the back and sides and with a much plainer – and thinner – pickguard.
