This Overwater Scott Devine Model 4 J Series Bass dates to 21 August 2017, and features a slightly ‘undersize’ Swamp Ash body paired with a 33 inch scale Birdseye Maple neck. It also includes Overwater’s own active electronics, powered by a single 9v battery. The back of the headstock is signed by Chris May and Martin Lee, two key figures at Overwater.
We don’t often see Overwater basses here; they are presently built in Carlisle, northern England – not far from the Scottis border. Overwater began in the 1970’s at a basement shop on Denmark Street in London, in the late 1970’s opened a second production shop in Newcastle, and then moved to Alston, and finally to Carlisle. Their focus throughout has been on meeting the needs of working professional bassists.
Scott Devine has been playing professionally at a high level for many years backing countless artists, and now has a focus on education.
With the Swamp Ash body and Maple neck, hardware on this Overwater Scott Devine model includes HipShot Ultra Lite tuners and an Overwater Mono Rail 4-section bridge. The electronics include an Overwater P-J noiseless pickup set, controls for Volume, Blend and Passive Tone; the battery powers an active buffer pre-amp.
This bass plays well, is well built and very comfortable, and is in great condition. It is sold with its original Hiscox-made, Overwater branded lightweight flight case. The case includes the Certificate of Authenticity – which, unusually, has the production date! – and the allen keys for adjusting the truss rod and saddles.
