Brand: National Resophonic Guitars
Instrument Categories: Acoustic Steel String, Guitars, Resophonic Guitars, SOLD
The National Style 1.5 Tricone Resophonic guitar is an upgrade to the ‘Standard’ Style 1 Tricone, based on the earliest National models from the late 1920s. It is a big, very full sounding instrument that’s got an undeniable commanding presence that hits the original goals for the Resophonic design.
This example of the National Style 1.5 Tricone Resophonic is dated 09-04 (September 2004) and is in overall good condition. The body is brass with nickel plating and a double-line engraving around the edge (the nickel plating presents a few challenges to capturing an image). Nickel has a tendency to lightly tarnish over time; this is one of the reasons many shifted to Chrome as a longer lasting plating material.
The neck is Mahogany with a bound Ivoroid Rosewood fingerboard sporting Mother of Pearl diamond markers, and the headstock has an engraved multi-layer Ivoroid overlay. It has been recently set up by The Twelfth Fret Repair Shop. The original hard shell case is included.
Here’s what National has to say about the Style 1.5:
“Seeking a little something special to distinguish your Tricone? Just as National offered back in the 1930s, the National Style 1.5 is an upgraded version of the Style 1.
A hand-engraved, double-cut wriggle pattern borders the top, sides, and back of the Brass body. The ebony fretboard position markers are dressed up in mother-of-pearl diamonds. A stylish ivoroid headstock overlay provides the finishing touch of elegance, complete with engraved accents and the National shield logo.
The sound, though, is as clear and bright as the Style 1, heralding what National promised way back in 1927 was “a new step in the advancement and progress of string instruments.”
