Brand: National Resophonic Guitars
Instrument Categories: Mandolins, SOLD
The National RM1-E A-style mandolin hearkens back to the early days of Resophonic instruments, when the concept was being applied wherever more volume was needed.
Here we have the Maple-Walnut version, which isn’t just a great ice cream flavour. Walnut was used as an instrument wood for centuries, and brings a slight mellowness to the tone. It pairs well with the top end and brilliance provided by the Flame Maple top, short scale and single 9.5 inch resonator cone. The neck is also Flame Maple, and carries a bound Ebony fingerboard. The finish is a Sunburst on the top and neck, and natural on the back; the hardware finish is antiqued brass. As the electrified ‘E’ variant, the RM1-E carries a National Hot-Plate style resonator cover, with a Lollar single coil telecaster style pickup.
These instruments are top quality and have the distinctive resophonic tone.
A National branded hard shell case is included.
National describes the RM-1 Resonator Mandolin:
“National first unveiled its pioneering resonator mandolins back in the early 1930s, and we keep the tradition alive with our modern versions. We can proudly echo the original National catalog and say that our instruments “retain the clear, ringing tone typical of a good mandolin, yet the cone amplifier makes possible the volume wanted for ensemble playing.”
Our new mandolin was two years in R&D before it was finally ready for production. It boasts traditional features such as an A-style body, biscuit bridge, and vintage-style open-gear tuners, combined with modern appointments, including an intonated saddle and the comfortably radiused, extended fretboard topping the highly figured maple neck. The body is carved from walnut, with a beautifully figured maple top. The Art-Deco cast tailpiece and antique brass parts are exclusive to this instrument. Combined, the features add up to a mandolin with a truly transcendent tone.”
