Brand: National Resophonic Guitars
Instrument Categories: Acoustic Steel String, Guitars, Resophonic Guitars, SOLD
Based on the classic 1930’s ‘Duolian’ style design, this National Raw Series is a single-cone, 12-fret Resophonic guitar with the ‘Raw ‘ wax finish.
The first instruments built by the National String Instrument Corporation were the famous Tri-Cone models and were invented to address the need for more volume in a time before electric amplification. While these models were certainly successful, they were also fairly expensive to produce and thus had a higher price. As the 1930’s opened, a single cone Resophonic design was introduced by John Dopyera of National. These were sold as the Duolian, with a steel body, and the Triolian with a thinner painted steel or wooden body. The National Resophonic Company still uses the Triolian design and name, but not the Duolian as Gibson apparently owns that trademark.
Here we’re looking at a National Raw Series Steel 12-Fret from June of 2021. It has a 12 fret Maple neck with am ebony fingerboard and slotted peghead – the slotted head allows for a steeper string angle without increasing the headstock angle. This guitar is in very good, clean condition with very little wear. There is some slight finish wear where the player’s arm would rest, but otherwise anything you might see in the photographs are simply smudges.
Like other Nationals, this National Raw Series guitar plays very well and has an unmistakable warm tone with an undeniable presence. If you’re looking for a high quality Resophonic guitar, this one is a great deal!
The original National branded hard shell case is included.
More From The Builder About The National Raw Series models:
“Raw Series instruments have a minimal, wax body finish giving a naturally smooth feel that will patina over time. They are expertly handcrafted in our California workshop to the high quality standards our reputation is built on. Steel models, like all National steel bodied instruments, have an interior finish to protect against rusting.
Raw Series instruments are available in steel, brass, and German silver and feature a hard rock maple neck and a chicken-foot resonator coverplate. 12-Fret models have a slotted headstock and flat-cut F-holes while 14-Fret models have a peghead and rolled F-holes. “
