Brand: Mule Resophonic
Instrument Categories: Acoustic Steel String, Guitars, Resophonic Guitars, SOLD
The Mule Tricone is a hand built instrument reflecting the very earliest National Resophonic guitar, with three cones hidden under a round cover plate.
Mule guitars are built by Matt Eich and team in Saginaw, Michigan. Eich attended the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery and after travelling and working factory jobs spent several years with Huss & Dalton. Around 2008 he returned to Saginaw and began designing and building his own resophonic guitars, and his business began to grow and he’s moved into larger spaces several times. He now has a team helping him and produces around 120 guitars per year, with a waiting list of 15 months.
This Mule Tricone dates to perhaps 2017 based on its serial number and production rates. It’s a steel body tricone, with round cover, F-holes and a single coil pickup in the neck position. The slotted peghead, 12-fret neck, as all Mule necks is made of Roasted Maple and carries a Roasted-Maple bound Ebony fingerboard. The scale length is 25 inches or 635mm, and the nut width is a standard 1.75 inches or 44.5mm.
This is a very well built instrument with a great tone and a great feeling neck.
A black hard shell case, likely original, is included.
Here is Matt Eich on the Mule Tricone resophonic guitar:
“My name is Matt Eich and I build these steel bodied resonators. In normal acoustic guitars the differences between woods and pickups are noticeable but subtle. Many times those differences are too subtle to create change in how a player approaches the guitar and that can lead to a revolving door of buying and selling instruments that are too similar.
Inspiring tone is something that produces a sound that wakes up your ear and your creativity. That’s the value in having one of these instruments. You will hear new things, make different musical choices, write new songs. After playing a Mule you hear other guitars with fresh ears, make different musical choices, write new songs. Round and round it goes. It’s inspiring tone.”
