Brand: Kohno
Instrument Categories: Classical and Flamenco, Guitars, SOLD
This is something special – a Masaru Kohno Special Brazilian Rosewood guitar, at or near the top of his line. The ‘Special’ model was originally named the ‘No.50’ and its bridge has a distinctive forward sweep.
Signed by M. Kohno and dated to 1990, this well preserved professional grade instrument features a seven-fan European Spruce top paired with Brazilian Rosewood for the sides, back, heel cap, head plate and bridge. The neck is Spanish Cedar (which is neither, but is Cedrela odorata) with a pair of Ebony stiffeners visible from the back. The fingerboard is Ebony, with four small position markers on the bass side. The body linings and back braces are also Spanish Cedar, while the top braces are Spruce. Body bindings are a combination of Rosewood and Maple. The tuners are excellent Gotoh 35G510 models, while the nut and saddle are Bone. The finish is a clear lacquer, in very good condition for its 33 years.
This Masaru Kohno Special is an excellent example of Kohno’s work at the top of his skill. The construction is very clean, and the guitar itself is very responsive. There are a few small pressure marks on the back from honest use, but fret wear is very light and its voice while clear and strong is still developing.
Sold with a very solid double arched TKL ‘Made in Canada’ hard shell case.
