Instrument Categories: Acoustic Steel String, Guitars, SOLD
The Martin OM-42 is a fantastic guitar, based on the classic and very successful OM or Orchestra Model introduced in the very early 1930’s as banjo players migrated to guitar. It is extremely well-balanced and quite loud – an excellent choice for both fingerstyle and flatpicking, in both solo and ensemble contexts.
The model pairs a Sitka Spruce top with Indian Rosewood for the back and sides, with Mahogany for the body blocks and neck. Ebony is used for the bridge and bound fingerboard. As it’s a Style 42 guitar, the top has a layer of Abalone purfling, the bridge and fingerboard carry Style 45 Snowflake inlays, and the top has a vertical C F Martin logo.
Built during March of 2007, this Martin OM-42 is in all-round good condition with light wear. There is one small dent to the top near the edge of the lower treble bout, but otherwise the finish is clean. Fret wear is light.
The original Geib-style hard shell case is included.
Here’s the builder on the Martin OM-42:
“The stylish design of the 40 Series adds panache to the classic tone and feel of East Indian rosewood back and sides, a Sitka spruce scalloped X-braced top, and hand-fit dovetail neck joint. Open geared tuners, antique white binding, polished gloss finish, a tortoise colored pickguard and abalone pearl inlay offer shimmer with exemplary tone. Long scale and a sleek modified low-oval neck with narrow taper mean strumming and picking for hours in comfort and bliss. “
