The Martin M-36 is based on the very successful Martin M, or 0000 ‘Quadruple O’ size body. This is larger than any of the single to triple 0 size bodies, yet smaller than a dreadnought; consequently it is fairly loud with great projection, and has a very evenly represented tone and is very comfortable to play. It’s ideal for solo performers but fits well into ensembles and extremely well into recording situations.
These guitars are built with a solid Sitka Spruce top and Indian rosewood for the three-piece back, sides, bridge and headplate, and ebony for the bound fingerboard. This Martin M-36 dates to April of 2012. It is in overall good shape though there is a small section of repaired, non-structural finish damage to the top at the edge of the lower bass bout. There is also some natural and expected play wear, and some lacquer checking; fret wear is light.
This guitar plays very well, and the M-36 is a great design – comfortable, good sounding, easy to play and with plenty of volume and projection.
Here is the builder on the Martin M-36:
“A three-piece back, bound neck, and body that’s wide like a jumbo and thin like a 000, for a sound as distinctive as those who play it. East Indian rosewood and Sitka spruce work with scalloped bracing to produce a tone that’s big, balanced and ideal for studio recordings. Enclosed gear tuners and a modified low oval neck with narrow taper offer superb playability. “
