Here we have a brand new C. F. Martin J-40. The J-40 features a tight-waisted jumbo body shape, built from a Sitka spruce top and Indian rosewood for the back and sides. Mahogany is used for the neck, and ebony for the bound fingerboard and bridge.
This is one of the few new J-40s available anywhere, and given the world wide and industry wide impact the pandemic has had, they will continue to be hard to obtain.
The Martin J-40 also sports a nice set of inlays – the rosette has a center ring of abalone, the fingerboard uses a reduced hexagon set and the headplate has the C F Martin logo, all in abalone and mother of pearl.
Overall, the Martin J-40 is a very comfortable guitar to play. Not as big as a dreadnought but still capable of moving a lot of air, the body design is well balanced both physically and tonally. The low profile neck has a scale length of 25.4 inches and a nut width of 1 11/16 inches. The original Martin hardshell case is, of course, included.
Here’s the builder on the Martin J-40:
“Classic styling with a tight-waisted jumbo body shape, the J-40 is constructed from East Indian rosewood back and sides, a Sitka spruce top, and a hand-fit dovetail neck joint. It produces a tone that is beautifully balanced with powerful response and projection, enhancing the art of the singer-songwriter and session player. Boasting gold open geared tuners and Martin’s most comfortable high performance neck, this rare Martin body size has polished gloss finish and a Jumbo tone to set you apart.”
