New for 2013, Martin Guitars has gone into the vault and with the help of the Smithsonian Institute’s highly advanced CAT scan machines they have recreated vintage Martin’s from 1931,1933,1939 and 1941.
The high resolution images provided allowed Martin’s design team to see the past in incredible detail and recreate numerous hidden features and subtle nuances from Martin’s “golden era.”
All the details have been taken into consideration from minute differences in bridge plate thicknesses to unique bracing pattern subtleties and the delicate hide glued cloth side reinforcement strips. The handwork, finesse and incredible attention to detail required for these instruments has helped to create the most authentic “New Old” Martins ever!
The Martin D-18 Authentic 1939 is based on a guitar in the Martin museum and features mahogany back and sides, an Adirondack spruce top, and uses an authentic circa 1939 bracing pattern. This piece is completed by using period-correct “18” Authentic-style appointments, and an Authentic neck barrel and heel.
