❌SOLD❌ Martin 0021NY Brazilian Rosewood Steel String, 1962

The Martin 0021NY, built from 1961 to 1965, is based on the 00-21 model first introduced by C. F Martin I during 1898 and built until 1996.

While it is not heavily decorated and has no fingerboard inlays, it’s not a base model. It features a Sitka Spruce top paired with Brazilian Rosewood for the sides, back, headplate, fingerboard and bridge, with Mahogany for the body blocks and neck. The 12-fret slotted peghead neck is exceptionally wide for a steel string guitar with a 1.9 inch nut width – a ‘standard’ Classical guitar is two inches at the nut. The slotted peghead helps improve tone and sustain at the open position as the string path drops sharply into the slots.

Only 906 Martin 0021NY models were built during the production run, and many were shipped with ‘silk and steel’ strings – this model was apparently built to accommodate nylon, steel or silk and steel strings. Still, it does carry X rather than classical style fan braces, but they are fairly small so at most, light gauge strings should be used.

This wonderful 1962 example is in good condition with minor wear, and sounds great. The wider fingerboard can take some getting used to for those who like to use their thumb for bass notes but this is well suited to fingerstyle playing.

The original Martin hard shell case is included.
