The Lucca LS1C is a standard model for Ron Lucca, who has been building guitars and working with musical instruments including high end pianos since 1969. The late Toronto Jazz Guitarist Gary Benson had an LS1C built for himself. This guitar was ordered with options to replicate it.
Ronald Lucca built his first classical guitar in 1969, and the next year entered an apprenticeship at the Steinway Piano Company in Philadelphia. He worked with pianos for some time, and went back to University ultimately earning a Masters in Music Therapy from Temple University. He also became the official supplier for Ebony Benedetto tailpieces and finger-rests.
This Lucca LS1C guitar with Florentine cutaway was ordered during 2002 for delivery at the end of October, 2002. It is built with a hand-carved Spruce arched top, hand carved Maple back, and with Maple for the sides and neck. The body is bound with faux-tortoise strips. The neck carries an unbound, 25 inch scale Ebony fingerboard with 1.75 inch nut; the headplate is also Ebony with Mother of Pearl Lucca inlay. A ‘Gary Benson Model’ plaque covers the truss rod. The bridge, tailpiece and finger-rest are all Ebony and are Benedetto style, made by Lucca. A Benedetto design pickup is installed at the neck position with volume and tone controls on the lower treble bout. The tuners are black-finished Grover Roto-Matic models.
This guitar is in very nice condition, with little wear of any kind. The finish is now 16 years old and is showing natural shrinkage into the pores, but has little scuffing or denting. Fretwear is negligible.
A black arched top case is included, possibly the original.
