The Larrivee OMV 05 combines several influences into one very nice, very responsive guitar ideal for fingerstyle. The cutaway OM body shape and size provides a well rounded, even frequency response and Jean Larrivee’s classical background appears in the 650mm scale length and fairly wide 45mm nut.
Now out of production, this Larrivee OMV 05 dates to October 20, 2006 at Larrivee’s shop in Oxnard, California. It features a Sitka Spruce top paired with Central American Mahogany for the sides, back, body blocks, and neck. Ebony is used for the bridge and ivoroid-bound fingerboard. The top sports a smapp faux-tortoise pickguard and an Abalone ring, and the head plate has Mother of Pearl Larrivee logo and the characteristic silver border originally created for Larrivee by Tony Duggan-Smith. The body binding is Flame Maple. This guitar is equipped from the builder with a LR Baggs Element pickup system, controls and battery access on the upper bass side and the output jack at the tail block.
This 2006 Larrivee OMV 05 example is in very nice, clean condition with light wear, and light fret wear most evident in the lower positions. It plays well, and the slightly wide nut makes complex fingerings, common in fingerstyle, easier to do without fingers crashing into other strings. The sound is clear, crisp and detailed, with the high-end sparkle Mahogany guitars provide, and there’s lots of separation between notes. The smaller OM size body is very comfortable to play, seated or standing
The original Larrivee hard shell case is included.
