The Larrivee OM 09 is based on the classic ‘Orchestra Model’ design dating to 1929, and is itself based on the 000 body size but with the upper bouts adapted to accommodate a 14-fret neck.
At first, this model was named after Perry Bechtel, the prominent banjo player who custom ordered it; however, Martin soon realized that ‘Orchestra Model’ had better appeal to migrating banjo players, and never used the Bechtel name in catalogs.
Here we’re looking at a Larrivee OM 09 model, dating to June 22, 1999 and built at the Larrivee shop in Vancouver, BC. As an 09 model, it features a Sitka Spruce top paired with Indian Rosewood for the back and sides, and Maple body binding. The body blocks and neck are Mahogany, with Ebony for the head plate, bridge, and ivoroid-bound fingerboard. The rosette is Abalone with multi layer purfling rings.
This guitar is in good, clean condition with no very little wear of any kind and no cracks. Fret wear is negligible, and the pickguard shows quite light scuffing from picks or finger contact, suggesting that it has not been played much.
This guitar is well suited to fingerstyle playing, delivering a full and well balanced tone with plenty of detail and good volume.
The original Larrivee hard shell case is included.
