Built during 2002 in Oxnard, California, this Larrivée J-05 sports a Jumbo body, a design pioneered by Gibson at the end of WWII with the SJ-200, and successfully used by notable builders like Guild. The Jumbo design provides lots of power and volume with clarity and separation.
The Larrivée J-05 uses a Sitka Spruce top with abalone rosette, Mahogany for the back, sides and neck, and ebony for the fingerboard, bridge and headplate. The body is bound with curly maple, the neck with grained ivoroid.
This example is in overall good condition with minor play wear. There are a few small dings on the top towards the edge of the lower bass bout, covered by the right arm when playing. Thoughtfully, a discreet transparent plastic pickguard was installed so there’s little pick or finger wear on the top itself. Fretwear is minor. A Fishman saddle pickup is installed. The original hardshell case is included.
The serial number dates this guitar to July 23, 2002.
