The Larrivee LV19 Special Vine Edition was built only during 2002, in a run of fifty instruments featuring a spectacular engraved ‘tree of life’ vine inlay.
Here we’re looking at a Larrivee LV19 Special Vine Edition, dating to September 10, 2002 and built at the then-new Larrivee shop in Oxnard, California. The LV-19 is now a discontinued model, but the “LV” indicated the classically-derived Larrivee body while the “19” denotes a step up from the “09” trim, adding Rosewood binding.
This Larrivee LV19 Special Vine Edition is in overall good condition, and has just left The Twelfth Fret Repair Shop where it received a neck reset and repair of a small crack on the back. Long ago a crack on the top was repaired and cleated. The LV-19 has a cutaway body, built using a Sitka Spruce top and Indian Rosewood for the sides, back and binding. The body blocks and neck are Mahogany, with Ebony for the head plate, bridge, and ivoroid-bound fingerboard. The top and back are bound, enclosing a special blue purfling. The rosette is Abalone, which is also used extensively in the engraved ‘tree of life’ vine and headstock inlays. The head plate has Larrivee’s distinctive silver border, originally designed by Tony Duggan-Smith during his tenure with Larrivee.
This very nice guitar has a full, rich sound, with a lot of sonic detail throughout the frequency range. It plays well, and as it’s had the neck reset that almost every steel string guitar of a certain age will need, its action is very comfortable and can be set to the player’s needs, higher or lower.
The original Larrivee hard shell case is included.
