Brand: Larrivee
Instrument Categories: Acoustic Steel String, Guitars, SOLD
The Larrivee L-11 Steel String guitar features Larrivee’s ‘L’ body, a blend of traditional classical guitar and Dreadnought proportions. The result is a very well balanced tonal palette.
For the Larrivee L-11, the top and its bracing are Sitka Spruce, paired with Indian Rosewood for the sides, back, body binding, and head plate. The neck and body blocks are Mahogany, with Ebony for the bridge and ivoroid-bound fingerboard. For hardware, the tuners are Grover Super Roto-Matic models, a version with metal Art Deco ‘Stair Step’ buttons. The finish is a natural, clear lacquer, and any tinting is from age.
This Larrivee L-11 Steel String was built in Victoria in 1978 and is in overall good condition. It has been professionally re-fretted with Dunlop 6105 fret wire, 18% nickel silver. This fret wire is as narrow as ‘vintage’ styles, but is a bit higher leading to better grip and traction and slightly more clarity and note-to-note separation. With this re-fret and setup, it plays very well. The fact that a re-fret was necessary implies that the guitar has been played, allowing its voice to fully develop.
This 1978 Larrivee L-11 is sold with a period arched top hard shell case, possibly the original.
