The Larrivee J03 Mahogany Jumbo is part of the Recording series, which lowers costs through plainer appointments, while maintaining overall quality.
The Larrivee J or Jumbo body is based on a design pioneered by Gibson at the end of WWII with the SJ-200, and successfully used by notable builders like Guild. The Jumbo design provides lots of power and volume with clarity and separation
This Larrivee J03 dates to August 10, 2010 and was built at the Larrivee shop in Vancouver, BC. All solid woods, the top is Sitka Spruce, with Mahogany for the sides, back, body blocks, and neck. The fingerboard, bridge and head plate are Ebony, with Maple for the body binding.
It’s in overall good condition and has recently been serviced, with a couple of cracks repaired and cleated. While it has been used as intended and has a few small dings and dents, fret wear is light.
This specific guitar differs slightly from current J03 production in terms of scale length. Currently, the Larrivee J03 uses a 25.5 inch or 647.7mm scale length, standard for many steel string guitars. However, this older example has a 25.59 inch or 650mm scale length – the length used on classical guitars.
Here is the builder on the Larrivee J03 Recording Series models:
“Built to the exact standards you would find on our much higher series, the Larrivee J03 is built in America using all solid wood and features our hand-fit dovetail neck joint for superior fit and sustain. This series truly stands out as an industry leader for price and quality. The 03 Mahogany Series is built from solid African Khaya mahogany, kiln dried for maximum tone. Maple bound trim, herringbone purfling, rosette and satin finish are standard features on 03 Series. “
The original Larrivee hard shell case is included.
