Since 1973, Joe Kovacic has built guitars under the Lado name, using skills learned at the Zagreb School of Guitar Making and Crossman guitars in Vienna. For a time, his shop was at 920 Kingston Road in Toronto, which in 1977 became the first location of The Twelfth Fret.
From the 1980’s, custom guitars and in particular the neck-through design became very popular. Bernardo Rico’s B.C. Rich designs were some of the breakthrough instruments. Many Lado guitars shared these principles and exhibited excellent craftsmanship.
Here we have a left-handed Lado Golden Hawk Custom in darkburst finish, dating to 1998. It is a solid body, neck through design largely of maple and with ebony fingerboard. Hardware is gold plated and includes an original Floyd Rose trem system. Pickups are by Seymour Duncan and there are lots of tonal options from the 5-way switch and push/pull coil taps. This guitar has been used as intended over the years so it has some honest wear and finish oxidization but overall is in quite good shape. The original hardshell case is included.
