❌SOLD❌ Kauer Daylighter Express Deluxe Sunburst, 2012

The Kauer Daylighter Express Deluxe is now discontinued but like other Kauer models is not a slavish copy of other designs, but tries to make real improvements.

Kauer Guitars are made by Doug Kauer in Elk Grove, CA, with the goal of delivering a well balanced, comfortable instrument with a clear and articulate tone and lots of dynamic range.. His guitars blend design cues from many sources, and work quite well.

The Kauer Daylighter Express Deluxe is built using Spanish Cedar for the body’s back and neck, and ‘Ambrosia Maple’ for a .25 inch layer on the top. The fingerboard is Central African Wenge, or Millettia Laurentii. Binding, on the body top, fingerboard and headstock, is a figured Maple. The head plate itself is a flame Maple, and the Kauer logo is a metal foil layer.

Spanish Cedar or Cuban Cedar or Cedro as it’s known in Spain – where it is used for both Classical and Flamenco guitar necks and body blocks. Its proper name is Cedrela odorata, is sourced from South and Central America, and is related to ‘true’ Mahogany. Despite the name, it isn’t from Spain, and would be seriously challenged by winters in northern parts of the country.

Ambrosia Maple is not a specific species of Maple. The name refers to any Maple tree that’s been infested by Ambrosia beetles and the fungus they carry, which causes a spalting effect to the wood grain.

For hardware, the Kauer Daylighter Express Deluxe features Sperzel open gear slot-head tuners with faux Mother of Pearl keystone shaped buttons.

This guitar is equipped with a pair of humbuckers, likely built by WolfeTone, but it also comes with a pair of quick-connect P90 pickups and a matching P90-cut pickguard. A TonePros Tune-O-Matic / Stop tailpiece bridge is included, similar in concept to the 1980’s Badass bridge by the late Leo Quann.

This Kauer Daylighter Express Deluxe carries a sunburst finish, which has some wear, in particular some buckle rash on the back. Fret wear is light, and the guitar was well taken care of. It’s very comfortable to play, and is very resonant and responsive. Setup is good and this is a very nice guitar.
