Brand: Farrell Classical Guitars
Instrument Categories: Classical and Flamenco, Guitars, REDUCED, SOLD
This Jerry Farrell Maple Classical guitar follows a traditional Spanish construction pattern, but with a lovely Curly Maple set for the sides and back in place of Rosewood, and an Engelmann Spruce top. The neck appears to be Cedrilla or Spanish Cedar as used on traditional classicals, and with Indian Rosewood for the fingerboard and bridge.
Jerry Farrell builds in Hamilton, Ontario and started by building about 20 violins while working a day job as a medical illustrator. In 1972 he was captivated by an Andres Segovia concert, and decided to build guitars using Irving Sloan’s influential 1966 book (published by EP Dutton), “Classic Guitar Construction”. Many people used this book, and later Arthur Overholtzer’s 1974 “Classical Guitar Making”. Over the years he has built many very good quality instruments, mostly to order.
More From The Builder On The Jerry Farrell Maple Classical Guitar:
“The spruce top was a specially selected top by Bev Finch on Vancouver Island. The best tonewood grader on the planet. The top is perfectly quarter cut and shows lots of silk. The back and sides are European Maple that I bought in Austria 10 years ago. The maple is a very attractive set, also cut on the quarter. This instrument is made in a completely traditional manner using only the best materials throughout and put together with hide glue. The guitar has a body resonance of “G”. It has a refined sound with clarity and is quite loud. It has good sustain with fine voice separation. The tuners are Alessi with Ebony buttons.”
This Jerry Farrell Maple Classical guitar is in very good condition and plays very well. The finish is a natural, light French Polish also in very good condition.
An Alhambra hard shell case is included.
