❌SOLD❌ Jeff Healey’s Jackson Siamese Doubleneck, Black, 1988

Here is a bit of history – Jeff Healey’s Jackson Siamese Doubleneck, purchased in 1988 while recording the Roadhouse soundtrack and used during many performances and recordings!

The Jeff Healey Band consisted of Jeff Healey on guitars, Joe Rockman on bass, and Tom Stephen on drums. The band’s material was heavily influenced by blues-rock styles, and eventually folded as Healey’s interests moved towards jazz. Jeff Healey died of cancer in 2008, aged 41.

Here’s a description of Jeff Healey’s Jackson by the current owner, who was given it by Healey in 2007:

“This is a Jackson USA custom-shop doubleneck, 12 string on the top neck and 6 on the bottom. Doubleneck Jacksons are rare, and this guitar is particularly unusual because the headstocks are joined. I’d say it is one of three truly iconic double necks played by great Canadian guitarists (the others being Alex Lifeson’s and Gord Johnson’s doubleneck Gibsons)

Jeff bought the guitar new in LA in 1988 while he was recording his debut album and filming the movie Roadhouse. He used it extensively on the road, especially while the band was a trio. It also appears in a few spots in the official videos for Jeff’s biggest hit, “Angel Eyes”, and throughout the official video for his cover of Dylan’s “When The Night Comes Falling From the Sky”. I also suspect it was used in the studio, such as on While My Guitar Gently Weeps, as it was the only 12 string electric that Jeff ever owned. Jeff owned it until he gave it to me in the spring of 2007.

During the time Jeff owned it, he replaced the original Jackson pickups; the single coils with the (now hard-to-find) red Evans pickups he was known for using in the early years, and the rest of the pickups with Evans humbuckers and then later the Seymour Duncan SH-5’s in it now (these are the same pickups he came to prefer and had installed in his main strat for the final decade or so of his life.) Since it came into my possession, I have replaced the 5 way selector switch for the top neck (the original was broken) and the master tone pot, and had it professionally set up and cleaned. Otherwise, it is exactly as it was when Jeff last played it, including the original Kahler double-locking trem system, which is set-up decked, not floating, the way Jeff preferred. (the arm is included).

The guitar was a road guitar, and as such it has a few small dings in the finish (remarkably few, though, given how notoriously rough Jeff was with his other guitars). Also at some point in its history, it became cracked on the 12 string headstock near where it meets the other headstock. It’s been properly-repaired with glue, but you can see the place where it cracked in the finish, especially on the back of the headstock (see photos). Also at some point in its history, the cover over the trem spring cavity on the back of the guitar was removed and is lost.

It plays incredibly well and sounds great, and has a slim, fast neck typical of Jackson USA guitars. The jumbo frets have little-to-no wear, which tells me that Jeff had it refretted not long before he gave it to me.

It also comes with the original hardshell case, which has obviously been on the road and has some nicks and tears in the Tolex.”
