Here is an unusual item! Built during 2014 in Guanajuato, Mexico, this is a J Perfecto Rubio Estudio model; the builder is a cousin of famed luthier German Vazquez Rubio of Los Angeles, who worked for Bernardo Rico when B C Rich models were new. We do not see many Mexican-built guitars in Canada, and in that number, high quality models like this are even rarer.
J Perfecto Rubio Vazquez is a luthier from Paracho, Mexico. It is estimated that up to 75 percent of guitars built in Mexico come from Paracho, and many Mexican luthiers learn the craft there. J Perfecto is a cousin of German Vazquez Rubio and the son of Don Manuel Rubio Cano – another famous Paracho luthier. Perfecto moved from Paracho some time ago and is now based in Guanajuato. Perfecto’s brothers , Jacinto, Guillermo and Victor Manuel are also luthiers.
This J Perfecto Rubio Estudio model bears a label signed and dated to “Abril 2014”. It features traditional Spanish style construction with a ‘slipper’ heel, a Sitka Spruce top (which is a bit yellower in the photos), Rosewood for the sides, back, bridge, fingerboard, neck stiffener and head plate, and Mahogany for the body blocks and neck. The finish is exceptionally thin and light, without much filler in the Rosewood pores. Its scale length is a bit short for a concert classical model, at 640mm (25.2 inches)and is the third 640mm scale guitar we’ve listed in the last few days.
This guitar is well made, very light and responsive, with plenty of representation throughout the harmonic range. It appears to have been played very lightly, so its voice can still be subject to development through playing.
The original hard shell case is included.
