In the 1980s, the great Jazz guitarist George Benson entered into a collaboration with Ibanez to produce a series of signature archtop electric guitars, including the Ibanez George Benson GB10 BS and its fancier sisters. These guitars were immediately popular with other jazz players, because the design addresses real needs. The body is comfortably compact, and while its hollow, F-hole body design provides real archtop resonance, responsiveness and ‘thump’, the solid spruce top is carved to dramatically reduce feedback at performance volumes.
The Ibanez George Benson GB-10 is still in production as are other versions of the model, and they are as practical as when introduced.
Here we have a Ibanez George Benson GB10 BS, built by Ibanez at the famous Terada plant during April of 1983.
It’s in good shape, except that the binding has deteriorated badly in several areas, with some attendant finish damage. While this is repairable, the cost of the repair heads towards $1500, and the price has been reduced accordingly. This damage is not structural, and the guitar plays well. A Ruby arm rest could be used to cover the missing binding where the player’s arm goes over the lower bass edge. The G tuner failed and has been replaced, otherwise the parts are original.
The original hard shell case is included.
