Brand: Hippner Guitars
Instrument Categories: Classical and Flamenco, Guitars, REDUCED, SOLD
Built in a tiny corner of the USA, this Darren Hippner Romanillos style classical guitar illustrates why its maker has such a good reputation.
This slightly short-scale guitar – 25 inches or 635mm- was built during 2012 and no longer appears in his listing of available models. The Hippner Romanillos draws from the work of Jose Romanillos, who worked largely in the UK from 1961 and until his retirement to Spain in 1995 provided top rank concert instruments to players like Julian Bream and Pepe Romero.
Starting with a European Spruce top, this Hippner Romanillos then uses a lovely set of Brazilian Rosewood for the sides, back, head plate and bridge. The body blocks and neck are Mahogany and the fingerboard Ebony. The finish is a light French Polish with a bit of amber tint for the top itself. It has also had a passive K&K Pure Mini Classic four-element piezo pickup added, with the output jack coming through the tail block. Unusually for a classical guitar, there are fingerboard-edge abalone side dot position markers at frets 3, 5, 7, 9 and 12.
This is an impressive guitar with a well-developed, rich voice, backed with plenty of volume and projection. It is in very good clean condition, with only very light marking as is expected with French Polish finishes.
Sold with its original Calton lightweight flight case.
