Here’s a rarity! Seen here is a Henderson OM style guitar, built during 2019 in Rugby Virgina by W C Henderson and in very good clean condition.
Wayne C Henderson has been a prominent fingerstyle guitarist and luthier for many years, and puts a lot of time and effort into promoting Appalachian arts and culture via the “Wayne C. Henderson School of Appalachian Arts”. He builds around 20 instruments annually, mostly guitars but also mandolins – one mandolin was owned and played by Doc Watson. His guitar clients include Tommy Emmanuel and Eric Clapton, and his waiting list is around a decade. Consequently, these are rare guitars that don’t come on the market very often.
This Henderson OM features an Orchestra Model type body with Spruce top paired with Brazilian Rosewood for the sides, back and head plate, Mahogany for the body blocks and neck, and Ebony for the bridge and bound fingerboard. The fingerboard features and elaborate Abalone inlay set of stacked flowerpots and vines, with a classic “torch” style inlay with an engraved ‘W C Henderson” banner on the headstock. The top and sound holes are also surrounded with an abalone layer. The neck has a vintage ‘V’ profile.
Recently serviced at The Twelfth Fret Repair Shop, this guitar is in very good clean condition and plays very well. Tonally, it does not appear to have been played enough to fully develop its voice, but as is, it is clean crisp and precise with plenty of separation and projection.
The original Guardian arched top, hard shell case is included.
