Here we have a very nice Harrison GB Custom with Sapele Pomelle top, built at Douglas Harrison’s shop in Toronto Canada during 2013.
Originally the outgrowth of a guitar custom built for the late Gary Benson, a well known Toronto jazz guitarist and educator, the Harrison GB has proven itself popular with an increasing number of players – including Harrison himself at his own gigs!
The Harrison GB is a semi-hollow, thinline design based on a Tropical Mahogany back with a hand-carved top; the materials for the top are often chosen by the customer. Here, the top, which has bound F-holes, is Sapele with ‘Pomelle’ figuring, related to what’s called ‘Quilted’ figuring. Sapele (Entandrophragma cylindricum) is a member of Meliaceae, the Mahogany family, and is named for the Nigerian city it grows near. The neck is built of three pieces of Tropical Mahogany for stability. The head plate, tailpiece and bound fingerboard are all Ebony. There are position markers on the bass side fingerboard binding, but not on the fingerboard itself. The Harrison logo inlay is Mother of Pearl. Hardware starts with a set of excellent Gotoh 510 tuners, and a Schaller roller tune-o-matic style bridge. The single neck pickup is a Seymour Duncan Jazz model, wired to a series/parallel switch on the tone control.
Built during 2013, this Harrison GB is in overall good condition with a few light marks on the back – it’s been used as intended. Fret wear is light and the fret work is very good.
The original Harrison-branded Ameritage hard shell case is included.
