Here we have a brand new Harrison GB Blister Maple with its spectacular figuring emphasised by a hand-rubbed sunburst lacquer finish!
The Harrison GB design originated as a custom order from the late Gary Benson, a prominent Toronto jazz guitarist and educator. The concept is a thin chambered Tropical Mahogany (Swietenia Macrophylla) body with a hand-carved Maple top with F-holes, a Mahogany neck with Ebony fingerboard, usually an Ebony bridge and a single humbucking pickup in the neck position. Here, the center block is Sipo, formally Entandrophragma Utile and sometimes called African Mahogany though it is not a true Mahogany.
This design has been very successful and used by a number of jazz guitarists.
This new Harrison GB Blister Maple arrived in our shop recently, and has one of the most dramatic tops we’ve seen in a while. The hand-rubbed sunburst finish on the top shows off the blister-type figure and is very attractive. The Ebony bridge and tailpiece are hand-made by Douglas Harrison. The body, neck and head binding is Maple. There are three inlays of Abalone, the Harrison logo on the headstock, and crests on the truss rod cover and tailpiece. The frets are jumbo stainless steel, and the fretwork is extremely clean, as is the rest of the guitar construction.
For hardware, a set of Gotoh 510 chrome tuners are at the head. The electronics start with a Seymour Duncan ’59, as an F-space model to account for the wider string spacing, with a push-pull tone pot for series or parallel.
The Harrison GB Blister Maple is sold with its original Harrison-branded Armitage case.
