Brand: Halcyon Guitars
Instrument Categories: Acoustic Steel String, Guitars, REDUCED, SOLD
Here is a Halcyon Grand Auditorium Cutaway with a Lutz Spruce top and figured Walnut for the sides, back, body binding and head plate, and built by Ed Bond in East Vancouver around 2020. Aside from the Lutz Spruce and Figured Walnut, the body blocks and neck are Mahogany, with Ebony for the fingerboard and bridge.
This lovely instrument is in very good, clean condition and is equipped with a Schatten HFN-VT pickup set, with volume and tone controls tucked under the bass side of the sound hole.
The Halcyon Grand Auditorium Cutaway shape was originally defined by the Taylor guitar company as an alternative to the very common Dreadnought and Jumbo designs. It offers plenty of volume but a more balanced tone, with good representation throughout the harmonic range.
This Halcyon Grand Auditorium Cutaway is sold with a Tric case, itself a Canadian product of the Godin group.
Halcyon Guitars are built in East Vancouver, with its roots planted it Jean Larrivee’s Vancouver shop. In 1996, Ed Bond began working for Larrivee and for twelve years was Production and then Quality Control Manager. In 2002, Bond started working on his own ‘Tinker’ line of guitars outside of Larrivee, founding Halcyon Guitars in 2012. When Larrivee moved shop to Oxnard, California in 2013, Bond and Ryan Jones stayed behind and now work out of Bond’s East Vancouver shop.
