Brand: Guild
Instrument Categories: Archtop, Guitars, SOLD
Introduced in 1958, the Guild Savoy was available in cutaway acoustic form – as the A-150 here – and as the electric X-150. The body is a full 17 inch wide, with three inch sides. Often, it was equipped with a neck mount deArmond pickup though this example does not appear to have had one.
This Guild Savoy A-150 Archtop Guitar Sunburst dates to late 1959, likely the later part of December. The serial number is 12024, and the Guild records show the last serial number shipped during 1959 as 12035. It features a carved spruce top, with maple laminate back and sides. It is in largely original condition though the pickguard has been replaced. The top has had some touchups, but is structurally solid. The sunburst finish is nitrocellulose lacquer and shows the natural checking characteristic to this type of material.
Action height is presently 5/64ths treble and 6/64ths bass, and it plays cleanly. As expected, it’s got a clean, bright tone with lots of volume and projection. The original hardshell case is included.
