The Guild JF55 was built as the top of the six-string acoustic line from 1989 until the Westerly, Rhode Island plant closed.
Featuring a jumbo body, the Guild J55 combined a Sitka Spruce top with Indian Rosewood back and sides, with a three-piece Mahogany neck. The bridge and bound fingerboard are Ebony, and the inlays and rosette are a combination of Mother of Pearl and Abalone. Hardware is gold plated, with Grover RotoMatic tuners at the head.
Guild guitars were big favourites with the Bluegrass and Country crowds, providing lots of volume, great tone, and strong construction.
This example is in good overall condition. It has been played, and there are a few pressure marks on the back, and a small area of binding separation on the bass side of the neck from the nut to second fret. A pickup system is installed, with the controls need the heel on the bass side.
The Guild JF55 is called a Jumbo for a reason. It’s a big guitar, 17 inches wide and 5 inches deep – as big as the largest acoustic archtops. It is however a well balanced guitar, with lots of volume and projection, but also well represented mid and upper ranges along with bass. It sounds great.
The original Guild hard shell case is included.
