The Guild D25M Dreadnought made its first appearance in 1968 as a fully Mahogany-bodied dreadnought, but by 1974 a Spruce top was used. It remained a staple of the Guild lineup until 2001 when Guild’s then-parent, Fender Musical Instrument Corporation, shifted production to Corona, California.
Using a traditional pairing of a Spruce top with Mahogany for the sides, back and neck, the Guild D25M also uses Indian Rosewood for the fingerboard and bridge. The combination of Spruce and Mahogany gives a rich, full sound with lots of high-end sparkle, as well as projection and power. These are very good guitars for genres like Bluegrass and Country, and respond well to heavy flat-picking.
This Guild D25M example dates to 1974 and was built in Westerly, Rhode Island. It is in overall good shape and is quite playable. The bridge and saddle are somewhat low. This guitar has been used as intended and has an amount of marking, small dings and dents to the original nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The original tuners have been replaced with a set of Grover Roto-Matics.
