❌SOLD❌ Guild Capri CE-100D Archtop Electric Sunburst, 1965

Built from 1956 until 1982, the Guild Capri CE-100D was a fully hollow body archtop electric with a Florentine cutaway and a pair of pickups. The CE-100D was the Double pickup version of the single-pickup CE-100; at first, Franz pickups were used, then DeArmond, and in 1963 Guild’s new Anti-Hum pickups were fitted.

Here we’re looking at a Guild Capri CE-100D from 1965 in overall good condition, looking like it has been used as intended over the years. The body is Maple laminate for feedback rejection and lower production cost; Mahogany is used for the body blocks and two of the three sections of the neck – there is a Walnut layer between two outer Mahogany sections. The floating bridge and bound fingerboard are Rosewood, and for this time period that meant it was sourced from Central-South America. The position markers and headstock logos are synthetic, faux Mother of Pearl. For hardware, Grover Sta-Tite tuners are at the head, with a Guild G-cutout harp tailpiece at the body, and a wooden floating Rosewood bridge.

The 1965 Guild Capri electronics start with Guild’s small format or ‘mini’ Anti-Hum pickups with their distinctive raised sections on the covers. These were introduced in 1963 and used until about 1970, when a re-design increased the size of the units and changed the designation to HB-1. From there, there are individual volume and tone controls, a pickup selector, and an output jack mounted on the side.

This lovely instrument has been used as intended, and so has an amount of appropriate wear. The nitrocellulose lacquer finish is checked and worn through on the back at the bass edge side of the waist, and fret wear is moderate. It is presently strung with flat-wounds. The Sta-Tite tuners have some wear and backlash, but are still in production and are trivial to replace.

The original hard shell case is included.
