There is no doubt that the Don Grosh Hollow Carved Top model in Purple AA Quilted Maple and Korina and with a pair of Lindy Fralin P-90 pickups catches the eye! It was built around 1997 in Broomfield, Colorado.
Don Grosh was Shop Foreman for Valley Arts guitars from 1985 to 1993, when he opened his own shop as Grosh Guitars. His instruments are extremely high quality, using top of the line materials and components.
This single-cut Grosh Hollow Carved Top model wears a translucent Purple finish over a nicely carved AAA grade Quilted Maple top, and the body back is Korina (African Limba, Terminalia superba). The back and Maple neck have much darker finish, with matching headstock. The fingerboard is Indian Rosewood. For hardware, locking Kluson-style tuners are at the head and at the other end of the strings there’s a Wilkinson stop-tail type wraparound bridge/tailpiece. The Wilkinson design improves on the original stop-tail by adding a sliding element for the G and B strings. Electronics are quite straightforward, with the Lindy Fralin P-90s feeding through a 3-way selector switch to master Volume and Tone controls. Overall condition is good – there is one small finish chip visible on the lower bass side of the top.
This is a very comfortable guitar to play, well balanced and the chambering dramatically reduces the instrument weight. It’s well set up and plays cleanly.
The original hard shell case is included.
