The Gretsch G6120 DS Nashville is based on 1955-56 6120 models equipped with single coil deArmond DynaSonic pickups. Built for a short time starting in 2003, it is a ‘dressed down’ version of the G6120 DSV – it lacks the Western-style decorative G brand on the body and engraved block inlays.
Structurally, the G6120 DS a 16 inch wide, single cutaway hollow body guitar with sound post and tone bar bracing, built of Maple laminate for feedback resistance. The neck is Maple with a bound Rosewood fingerboard and a brass nut. Original hardware included Grover Sta-Tite tuners, a Bigsby B6 with the ‘Duane Eddy’ handle, and the Bigsby aluminum saddle on a rosewood base. Wiring for DynaSonic equipped guitars used a pickup selector, master volume, indivudual volumes, and individual tone controls. Most of the metal parts, except the Bigsby trem and saddle, are gold plated. The pickguard is gold-coloured Plexi with a ‘Nashville’ signpost logo.
This G6120 DS dates to December 2003 and was built in Japan at the Terada plant. It’s in great condition, both physically and in terms of playability, and has had some maintenance and upgrades. It has been professionally refretted with a medium fretwire rather than small vintage wire, the Grover Sta-Tites have been replaced with gold-plated Wilkinson models, and the DynaSonic pickups (which at this point are no longer made by deArmond) have been replaced with TV Jones Classics with DynaMount, a Filter’Tron reproduction that fits into the DynaSonic mounts. These are excellent pickups and sound great, and pair well with the aluminum Bigsby saddle – it provides a lot of twang, clarity and separation.
Overall, this is a very nice guitar, that plays very well and is in great condition.
The original Gretsch hard shell case is included.
