Here is a very cool and rather rare Gretsch G6119-1959 Chet Atkins Tennessee Rose, much like a single-pickup Anniversary model with Trestle bracing and zero fret – and in Flagstaff Sunset Red!
This is a reproduction of a guitar known to have been built to a total of about one thousand instruments with open F-Holes. At this time, Chet Atkins was working with Gretsch to reduce feedback as volumes continued to rise, and two main approaches were taken. The first was the addition of Trestle bracing. This type of bracing is an addition to the standard tone-bar bracing, but has two extra supports running from the top to the back, from the neck block to just past the bridge. The second approach was the introduction of the ElectroTone body in 1962. The F-Holes were represented by decals or paint, and the body was actually closed; most models with this have a removable back pad covering an access panel.
The construction of the Gretsch G6119-1959 closely parallels the 6120 and Anniversary models. The body dimensions and materials are identical, but the F Holes are not bound. The necks have unbound Ebony fingerboards with zero frets, and have the larger headstock profile. A single Filter ‘Tron pickup was installed in the bridge position – in reality, these reproductions get a TV Jones Power ‘Tron pickup. The rest of the electronics are simple – a single volume control and a three-way tone switch (center is bypass). Tuners are Grover Sta-Tites, the bridge is a Rocking-Bar style on an Ebony base, paired with a Bigsby B6 true-vibrato tailpiece. As this is a Chet Atkins model, it has a black ‘Signpost’ pickguard.
This is a very cool guitar,
The original Gretsch-branded arched top, hard shell case is included.
