This great looking Roger Giffin Standard set-neck with carved-top solidbody was built during 2004 and is one of the first of Giffin’s then-new shop near Portland, Oregon.
Roger Giffin has built guitars for about 56 years, in London for over a decade from 1966, for Gibson from 1988 to 1994. Since 1997 he has built under his own name and since 2004 in a shop near Portland Oregon, in Beaverton. His instruments are impressively high quality.
This Giffin Standard was built as one of the first batches after his move from Los Angeles to the Portland area, and from information provided by Roger Giffin, dates to November of 2004. It features a Honduran Mahogany body with a Curly Tiger Maple top, Mahogany and Maple neck, a Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard and Maple trim. The body neck and head carry cream celluloid binding, Grover tuners and a TonePros bridge. The pickups are either Fralin PAF humbuckers or Gibson 57 Classic humbuckers with a coil split switch. The serial numbers for this guitar are inside the control cavity, and on the inside of the cavity colour.
The raised control section on the top is characteristic to Giffin guitars of the period but has not been used for the last dozen years. The tobacco sunburst finish is acrylic urethane and is very good, with the quality of the finish unusually extending to the matching control cover and the control cavity!
Overall this high quality, fairly rare guitar is in very good shape with only the slightest of wear. It appears to have spent most of its life unplayed.
This Giffin Standard comes with the original hard shell case.
