Brand: Gibson
Instrument Categories: Acoustic Steel String, Guitars, SOLD
We’ve just received a brand-new Gibson SJ-200 Studio Walnut, a slightly slimmer version of the classic SJ-200. This model uses Walnut for the sides, back, fingerboard and moustache bridge. The tuners are Grover Roto-Matics, and to make the guitar ready for stage use, a piezo pickup and pre-amp system is installed, with the volume control tucked under the bass edge of the sound hole.
As builders look for alternatives to now-restricted and imported woods, they are also looking backwards. Walnut had been a standard wood for musical instruments until Mahogany and Rosewoods became readily available. Many classic banjos and early guitars used Walnut extensively.
The new Gibson SJ-200 Studio Walnut is an impressive guitar. I confess a fondness for the basic design, and this guitar does nothing to diminish that. It is very comfortable to play, and has a warm, rich sound.
The original Gibson branded hard shell case is included.
Here’s the builder on the Gibson SJ-200 Studio Walnut:
“A Slimmer, More Comfortable SJ-200! Hand-built using beautiful Sitka spruce and walnut, the Gibson SJ-200 Studio is sure to please the eye and the ear. Utilizing our Advanced Response neck profile and slim body depth body design this is the most comfortable Super Jumbo we’ve ever built, without any sacrifice in tone. Outfitted with an active under-saddle piezo pickup for easy plug and play anywhere you perform.”
