The Gibson SG Supreme was built from 1999 to 2009 and features a figured Maple cap on a Mahogany slab body, paired with a Mahogany neck and bound Richlite fingerboard. At first, the SG Supreme was equipped with a pair of P-90 pickups, but these were phased out in favour of Humbuckers over the year 2000 and into 2001. In 2002, the ‘Fireburst’ finish seen here started rising from the tail of the guitar, rather than the traditional burst with dark edges and lighter center. The headstock binding and inlay set is similar to the Les Paul / SG Custom appointments, with Mother of Pearl split diamond inlays on the fingerboard. The neck uses a 60’s Slim Taper profile.
Here we’re looking at a Gibson SG Supreme Fireburst dating to 22 January 2002 and built at the Nashville plant. The top is a nicely bookmatched flame maple that sets off the Fireburst top finish. The Mahogany back and neck received a black finish. There is some finish scuffing on the top near the output jack and some blemishing at the neck joint strap button. The fret wire is a medium jumbo size with only minor wear. The metal hardware is gold plated and includes a Grover Roto-Matic set of tuners, and a Tune-o-Matic bridge is paired with a Stop-Bar tailpiece. Pickups seem to be ’57 Classic Alnico III models, with standard Gibson wiring.
This guitar plays well, sounds great and is certainly eye-catching!
Sold with its original hard shell case.
