The Gibson SG Standard appeared, named as such, in 1963 though it had been available for two years as the radically redesigned Les Paul Standard. It has remained in production since then, with a number of variations- some subtle, others less so.
Here we’re looking at a nice Gibson SG Standard built during 1977, likely at the Nashville Tennessee plant. This was during the Norlin era, and the back of the head features a ‘Volute’ typical of that time, added to help increase head strength.
This Gibson SG Standard is in overall good condition, with no breaks or structural repairs. It is constructed of Mahogany for the body and neck, and the bound fingerboard is Indian Rosewood with Mother of Pearl block position markers. Its pickups are original, and were repaired by The Twelfth Fret Repair shop. The volume and tone pots have been replaced, but those items receive pretty significant wear. The original tuners were replaced with Grover Roto-Matics in nickel plate.
The natural gloss finish is in decent shape, with the minor dents and dings as expected from a guitar that’s been used as intended for a few decades. The frets are worn, but the guitar is still quite playable as is. In fact I had rather a lot of fun trying it out!
The original case, in less than perfect condition, is included; its handle and one of its attachments is missing, but replacements are available.
