For 2006, the Memphis plant introduced the Gibson Satin 335, a somewhat stripped down version of the classic design. Most noticeably, the fingerboard was unbound and the finish is satin – sunburst, cherry or translucent black as seen here. Later versions seem to have restored the fingerboard binding. These models were discontinued with the Memphis plant itself in 2019.
Here we’re looking at an early Gibson Satin 335, dated to January 30 2006. It’s in overall good playing condition with minor fret and finish wear, and has had a number of upgrades. The stock ABR bridge and stop tailpiece have been replaced with a Babicz FCH (Full Contact Hardware) Tune-o-Matic and stop tailpiece set. This bridge allows individual adjustments to string height as well as string length for intonation. The original 57 Classic pickups have been replaced with TV Jones 59th Anniversary humbuckers without covers. The original multilayer black pickguard has been replaced as well, with a faux-tortoise part.
As with others of this design, the Gibson Satin 335 uses Maple laminate for the top, back and sides with a Maple center block. The neck is Mahogany with an Indian Rosewood fingerboard, here unbound.
The original Gibson branded black hard shell case is included.
