The Gibson Les Paul Studio Lite M3, or M-III was built from 1992 to 1994, and featured an HSH pickup configuration, five way switch plus another toggle, and a lighter weight body. The lighter weight was achieved by chambering the body, then refilling the chambers with inserts of lighter wood. Gibson named the inserted wood ‘Chromyte’ after its latin name, Ochroma lagopus, but it’s more commonly referred to as Balsa.
Otherwise, construction of the Gibson Les Paul Studio Lite M3 follows the pattern for Les Pauls – a Mahogany body with a carved Maple cap, and a Mahogany neck with an unbound Ebony fingerboard. The hardware is plated with ‘Black Chrome’ and the pickups are uncovered Gibson 490R and 490T models. Controls include Master Volume and Master Tone, a five way switch and a mini-toggle. The mini-toggle selects two wiring modes, one with five single coil selections, and the other four humbucker selections plus a ‘killswitch’ position.
This example dates to November 13th, 1992 and was built at Gibson’s Nashville plant. It is in very good clean condition, with only very light wear. It is one of the lightest weight carved top Les Pauls, and that doesn’t really detract from its tone or playability.
A black hard shell case is included.
